May 2016

I've been manifesting this trip for quite some time and the only thing that held me back was to book the ticket to this dreamy Indonesian island. I originally wanted to do this trip solo, but decided it was best to travel with a friend and experience adventure without being completely lost navigating through the jungle halfway across the world from home.

I arrived at dusk and watched the sun set against the backdrop of an infinity pool overlooking palm trees and jungle. In person, it felt more like heaven than any picture can translate. Beautiful resorts are scattered between jungle and rice fields. It was amazing to see daily offerings on the streets and temples on every corner. Soaking up the beautiful tropical views the first few days left me feeling visually overloaded, but grateful for the inspiration. We mostly walked through narrow roads by foot around town, but the best mode of transport is by scooter. We visited the popular spots like the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, Cafe Lotus Ubud and Ubud Market. Ubud is a haven of yoga retreats, rice paddies, vegan + vegetarian cafes and spiritual healing. I highly recommend spending a few days in Ubud to truly experience Balinese culture.

The next few days was spent at the sustainable, eco-luxury resort Glamping Sandat. Describing this resort as amazing is an understatement. It's located in a quiet area surrounded by rice fields with beautiful interiors and exteriors. We were welcomed with drinks and a tour of the resort ending at our very own tent with a mini pool overlooking the jungle. I've experienced glamping before but wanted to try it in the jungle. The experience exceeded more than my expectation. From sleeping in the jungle sustainably to fully immersing ourselves in the culture of BALI via a local market tour and cooking class. This was the highlight of the trip that I will keep with me forever.

The remainder of the trip was spent closer to beaches and cafes with tons of vegan options. Canggu has more of a chill vibe without the touristy crowd you'd find in Seminyak or Kuta. Our accommodations at KALAPA BALI were unreal. Our room was insanely beautiful with the dreamiest outdoor bathtub + shower. If there is such thing as #BALIGOALS, this was achieved at Kalapa. Taylor and I lounged hard, had brekkie served outside our room patio everyday and drank dragon fruit smoothies poolside.

The last few days was spent at Fella Villas in Canggu. The lovely owners of FELLA Swim has a beautiful 3 bedroom vacation home with another epic outdoor bathroom situation. Taylor and I were welcomed by the sweetest house maid that kept the house perfectly tidy and made us breakfast. To end the trip staying at Fella Villas was amazing. There were so many other places to see and that didn't work out, but so thankful for the overall experience of being in BALI. The solo flights to/from LAX to Denpasar was an adventure in itself and checking off this trip to BALI from my bucket list is amazing. This trip is the catalyst to the summer of travel that will be documented for the next several months.
